Review of “Wolf Canyon” starring Kevin Sorbo
Hercules Hunt saw “Wolf Canyon” and offered her musings:
I watched “Wolf Canyon” (over Christmas) with great enthusiasm as I anticipated a different type of role for Kevin Sorbo.
It was more than I expected: Kevin as we’ve never seen him before! Terms that come to mind when I think of Rick (Kevin’s character), a.k.a. Sheriff Andrew Wolf, are “audacious,” “smutty,” “sex addict,” “deliciously provocative,” and, of course, he is very funny. The role of Rick shows Kevin’s incredible depth and confidence as an actor; he plays Rick beautifully and with much ease.
“Wolf Canyon” is the name of the show within Wolf Canyon, and could have been titled, “Everybody Hates Rick,” but it’s far from your typical hit sitcom show type. It has a modern comedy feel to it complete with all the characters dealing with major personal issues.
One of the funniest characters is Diane, the producer (Nikki Payne), who constantly seems to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Her funny speech pattern and stressed-out levels give her that special quazi- “not all there,” goofy quality that is absolutely hilarious to watch.
Kevin’s character makes his debut entrance in hangover mode looking like he hasn’t showered in days, hits on a few ladies, gets dragged away and run away from, and passes out in front of the cast and crew from his drunken stupor. And that’s only the first episode…
I will also say that I feel this show has star quality and has the ingredients of a hit show. It’s a cross between “Trailer Park Boys” and “Meet the Spartans”!! The entire cast and crew hit the nail on the head with brilliant performances, script, and comedy genre. I think “Wolf Canyon” is one of Kevin’s best roles, and I do hope everyone gets to see it!
